In Pikmin 1, these bugs looked rather large than they do now. They were found more commonly, but not very helpful. Usually, they were found mostly in foliage, or some corner. When hit, they first dropped a 1 [[Pellet|pellet]], then when hit again, they drop two doses of [[nectar]], again they dropped more doses of nectar, and then they will drop a 5 pellet. This repeated once, and then stopped after you got the second 5 pellet. This was hard to achieve however, making them infamous compared to the new ones.

The creature can only be attacked with Pikmin, as [[leader]]s have no way of damaging this creature aside from [[ultra-bitter spray]]. Pikmin must be thrown at the Beetle's shell to flip it, knocking out useful items. The [[Iridescent Glint Beetle]] and the [[Doodlebug]] are damaged in the same way.

In real life, it is impossible for members of different families to share a genus; this would mean their genus identifiers are coincidentally the same instead of related.
