|A red and green Glowstem}}

The Glowstem (ヒカリエノキ) is a plant in p2. While classified as a relative to the Common Glowcap in the Piklopedia, Glowstems are actually artificial red and green light-emitting diodes. They are found exclusively in metal caves, where they are spread randomly along the ground and on metal ledges. Despite appearing to have exposed live wires, Glowstems provide no threat to Pikmin or leaders, only visually flickering slightly upon contact.
Glowstems are used for scenery in Pikmin 2. They appear to Hocotatian explorers to be relatives of the Common Glowcap, but in actuality, these tiny lights are what are known as LEDs, or Light-emitting diodes. They are never seen above ground and can only be found in certain cave sublevels with a metallic layout. Despite the lack of insulation covering the live wires, glowstems pose no electrical threat, nor any other kind, to Pikmin or captains, and have been added to levels merely for aesthetic affect. Rarely, they appear in a green version.

Coming into contact with these plants can, apparently in all places they're found, cause bomb-rocks to drop from the ceiling. This is relatively easy to cause on the 5th sublevel of the Subterranean Complex. If attempts are unsuccessful, run around the sublevel running into each Glowstem after it has already been cleared of bomb-rocks and Volatile Dweevils. At least one bomb-rock should be triggered by the Glowstems. This can happen with either the red or the green variants of Glowstem, as both appear in the sublevel.

Trivia
*The "Impromptu break-dancing" mentioned in Louie's notes on the Glowstem humorously refers to the convulsions brought on by being electrocuted.
*In the Japanese version, the Glowstem's family is listed as unknown, instead of belonging to the glowcap family.
*The first half of Olimar's notes on the Glowstem were very different in an early version of the translation found in a playable demo, more closely resembling the Japanese version. Rather than comparing the Glowstem to street lights, Olimar compares it to "the technology behind the LED (Lightning Eedesu) dual terminals", but notes that it "does not exhibit the doppler pushing characteristic of dual terminals".
