The Fiery Bulblax (ヤキチャッピー) is an uncommon enemy that appears in p2 and p4. Fiery Bulblaxes, similar to other grub-dog family members, are large, two-legged creatures that have a pair of eyes on stalks, a pair of fangs on either side of their mouth, and two toes each equipped with a small claw. However, unlike most other grub-dogs, Fiery Bulblaxes appear to be melting, giving them a deformed-looking appearance. Also unlike most other grub-dogs, these Bulblaxes lack any form of spots. They instead have a dark, ash-colored back with small, orange-colored patches; though they do have the same face color as a regular Bulborb. Their eyes are asymmetrical, with their right eye being a lot larger then their left one (each eye-stalk is of the same length however).

Fiery Bulblaxes are constantly ablaze, and appear to be melting from the extreme heat they put off, most noticeably on their faces. Red Pikmin are often the only type that can safely attack them due to their fire-resistance. However, if lured into a body of water, their flames will be temporarily extinguished, allowing all types to safely attack.

Behavior
Much like other members of the grub-dog family, Fiery Bulblaxes are nocturnal, sleeping in open locations during the day. During the night, they can be found wandering around. When they sleep, they lie on the bellies face forwards and their back will be covered in flames – constantly burning while it rests. These flames can be extinguished however, and they will disappear once the Bulblax is defeated.
Once awoken, the Fiery Bulblax will become aggressive and will charge at any nearby Pikmin or leaders. Much like other grub-dogs, they will lunge in an attempt to eat Pikmin and if they succeed, it will stand up to eat them. If they are being attacked by multiple Pikmin at once, the Bulblax will stop attacking and will then shake its body in order to knock off its attackers.
It should be noted that, although Fiery Bulblaxes do not wake up until touched, they are more sensitive compared other Bulborbs when returning to their homes, and can stop in their tracks if Pikmin or leaders enter their territory.
If a Fiery Bulblax's fiery backside is extinguished, it will soon attempt to reignite itself. In p2, it does this immediately after exiting the water that put the fire out. In p4, it takes a few moments before it reignites itself – often done when it is returning to its territory.

With Pikmin
Due to the Fiery Bulblax's fiery backside, Red Pikmin are key in defeating this creature. Standard grub-dog strategies can be applied; swarm the backside with a large squad, especially because of they high HP (having roughly the same amount as Emperor Bulblaxs). In p2, Red Pikmin should be thrown quickly onto its back, and in p4, they should simply be charged at the creatures back. Using an ultra-spicy spray can speed up the process and reduce the chances of potential Pikmin losses, though it should be taken into account that in Pikmin 2, they won't latch onto the Bulblax. Ultra-bitter sprays are also useful for defeating this beasts, however the fire will not be extinguished, so Red Pikmin are key in defeating this beast.
During night expeditions, Glow Pikmin will need to be used. These Pikmin are also immune to fire, so your best bet in defeating a Bulblax during the night is to have a medium-sized squad and to use a glowmob. The Fiery Bulblax will be stunned for a short period of time, allowing for a quick dispatch.
There are multiple Fiery Bulblaxes during the ps that can only be fought with Blue Pikmin, such as the one in the Valley of Repose in Pikmin 2 or the one in the Engulfed Castle in Pikmin 4. During these situations, the Bulblax should be baited into nearby bodies of water—extinguishing the flames—and allowing your Blue Pikmin to attack. In Pikmin 2, the beast will reignite its backside immediately after leaving the water, so an ultra-bitter spray is recommended. In Pikmin 4, it takes a lot more time for it to reignite itself, so there is ample time for defeating it.
Alternate methods
One simple method is to defeat the Fiery Bulblax using a leader's punch. However, if the leader doesn't have a Scorch Guard upgrade, they will be in massive danger of being burnt. This is a useful tactic for defeating them if you have a low amount of Pikmin. In p4, Ice Blasts will be very useful, as they are capable of both freezing the Bulblax (similar to an ultra-bitter spray) and extinguishing their flames. Once the Bulblax is frozen solid, using Oatchi (if he has a high leveled Rush and Chomp) is a decent method. For the Fiery Bulblaxes found in the Submerged Castle and the Engulfed Castle, you could wait for the Waterwraith to appear, as their stone rollers will instantly defeat any enemy if they are crushed. Finally, simply feeding the Bulblax 1 Bomb Rock will instantly defeat it.

Pikmin 2
Pikmin
Naturally, Red Pikmin are best to fight this creature due to their immunity to fire. Beat it as if it were a standard Red Bulborb, by peppering its back with a group of 50 or so reds. Fiery Bulblaxes have high HP for a grub-dog and have a fierce shake to fend off Pikmin. An ultra-spicy spray may be desirable for killing it before it can shake off attackers. Swarming a sleeping Fiery Bulblax with 50 or more Red Pikmin can also kill it quickly, but this is riskier since not all Pikmin will latch on to the beast, leaving them more vulnerable. Ultra-bitter sprays are also effective, but it should be noted the Bulblax's fire continues even while the creature is petrified.
Sometimes a Fiery Bulblax can only be fought with Blue Pikmin, for example in the Valley of Repose where one sleeps across a small lake. In these situations, awake the Bulblax, and then lure it into the water to extinguish its flames, attacking as soon as the flames go out. Using an ultra-bitter spray in these situations is strongly advised to minimize Pikmin losses, as the Bulblax will continue attacking while in the water. In p2 the foe will re-ignite the moment it leaves the water, but in p4 it will remain extinguished until it prepares to go back to sleep, giving a much longer window of time to attack.
If Red or Blue Pikmin are scarce in these situations, you can also throw Purple Pikmin, since they will each cause it damage through their smash and have a chance of stunning it. The Purple Pikmin will either be ignited by the flames or—if the Bulblax is lured in water—risk drowning, so this dangerous method must be done hastily if attempted at all.
It should be noted that, although Fiery Bulblaxes do not wake up until touched, they are more sensitive than other Bulborbs when returning to their homes, and can stop in their tracks if Pikmin or leaders enter their territory. This can earn you a little time if you attack a returning Fiery Bulblax just as it pauses to notice you.
Leaders
It is possible to kill a Fiery Bulblax with leaders, but without the Scorch Guard upgrade they are in overwhelming danger of getting burned. And even with that upgrade and the Rocket Fist, the task takes so long that it isn't recommended unless you are in a cave, without a time limit. But if you are to beat the Bulblax with just leaders, simply punch the creature and dodge its bites, as with other Grub-dogs.
Pikmin 4
Similar to the Pikmin 2 Strategy, but you can instantly freeze it with the Ice Blast item. Then rush into the Bulblax. Even after the ice wears off, the Bulblax will stay extinguished.
Notably, if the flames are quenched by leading the creature into water, the Bulblax does not immediately reignite itself upon leaving; it will only do so after any captains or Pikmin have left the area and it is about to go back to sleep. This means that it can be lured into water to extinguish the flames, and then lured out again into a dry area to more safely battle it with Rock or Purple Pikmin.
