The Decorated Cannon Beetle (ミヤビフタクチ) is an enemy in Pikmin 2. Decorated Cannon Beetles have an appearance similar to Armored Cannon Beetle Larvae, but are red instead of green, and have orange eyes. Also, this particular species is never found buried in the ground like Armored Cannon Beetle Larvae. They, too, spit out stones, but their rocks home in on the currently active leader due to the magnetic field which envelops the boulders. The rocks are surprisingly frail, in that one can be destroyed by throwing a Purple Pikmin.
Decorated Cannon Beetles have an appearance similar to Armored Cannon Beetle Larvae, but are red instead of green, and have orangish eyes. They, too, spit out stones, but their rocks home in on your currently active captain due to the powerful magnetic field which envelopes the boulders. This particular species is never found buried in the ground like Armored Cannon Beetles. Strangely, even when they are found in caves which are made of metal which is rusty, indicating it contains iron, the spacesuits are the only thing it homes in on.

Stats
The best way to defeat it is to go alone and wait for it to spit out a rock. Since the rocks follow you, you can manipulate them. However, it is nigh impossible to get a rock out of a lower water-filled area. The rocks can follow you into the same Beetle that spat them out and damage themselves. This is the most simple and easy way to kill them. These rocks can also be used to defeat other enemies with the same method, but know that one rock can be crushed by another rock, so keep in mind when you are guiding a rock. The longer a rock rolls, the more damage it'll do to the enemy it hits. As a note, the rocks it shoots out cannot be petrified. These boulders also act quite well against other enemies as well, killing small ones instantly and larger ones in one or two hits (depending on where they hit; if the boulder strikes the target's head, it will cause significantly more damage, even to the beetle itself).

Glitches
Activate the Piklopedia. Select the archive for this creature. Throw Pikpik carrots at the Beetle, making sure that they land in front and to the side of it. The Beetle will then spit out a rock, which will roll around to hit the Beetle if you have done it correctly. When the rock crashes on the Beetle, the Beetle doesn't die, no matter how many times you do this.

In the end of day sequence at the Valley of Repose, a Decorated Cannon Beetle often appears. Sometimes it will shoot rocks (which occasionally strike and injure/kill other enemies), inhale, and walk muc faster than normal.
{{transcript|Decorated Cannon Beetles spit rocks that follow their targets, making them more difficult to avoid than the attacks of the Larvae. ==Behavior==
enemy
Much like the Armored Cannon Beetle Larva, Decorated Cannon Beetles will wander aimlessly in a small area while left alone. Unlike their green counterparts, they will never be found buried in the ground. When approached, the larva will spit a large rock that crushes Pikmin, killing them instantly. These boulders move slowly compared to those shot by the Armored Cannon Beetle Larva, but they home in on nearby leaders. The rocks can be destroyed if they are lead into a wall, another enemy, and the impact of a purple Pikmin is even enough to break one. If the rock collides with another creature, it will deal a large amount of damage to them, enough to kill most small enemies. Certain creatures, however, are protected from the damage, such as Anode Beetles.

When attacked, the Decorated Cannon Beetle has only one defense: a bucking motion that will send all attacking Pikmin flying out in front of it, briefly incapacitating them and possibly deflowering them, and knock any nearby leader to the ground. This is very similar to defensive attack of the Fiery and Watery Blowhogs.
How to Kill
Pikmin
It is advised that you don't use Pikmin for this, but if there's not enough room to kill it with its own attack, use the Armored Cannon Beetle Larva strategy.

Location
Captains
Wait for it to shoot out a rock, then slowly walk back around toward the beetle, making sure to avoid sharp turns, and you can direct the rock to hit the beast. The impact should lower its health about half-way, depending on how far you let the rock follow you. Repeat if necessary. Boulders can also be led into other enemies, often defeating smaller ones with a single blow. If there's not enough room to do this, use the Armored Cannon Beetle Larva strategy.

guide
The best way to defeat a Decorated Cannon Beetle is to use its own boulders against itself. As the rocks follow the leader, they can be manipulated into hitting the same Beetle that shot them. The easiest way of accomplishing this is by using the Five-man Napsack to make a lone captain lie down directly in front the enemy. If positioned correctly, the boulder will roll over the top of the captain and arc around on it's own to kill the Beetle. If there is not enough room to do this, Purple Pikmin should be used to quickly stun and defeat the creature. Take a small group to avoid unnecessary deaths. Should the Decorated Cannon Beetle attack, move your Pikmin to either the left or right of the leader, and guide the boulder towards a nearby wall.

Boulders shot by Decorated Cannon Beetles can be used against other enemies, killing small creatures instantly and large enemies in one or two hits. Damage is determined by the speed of the stone and where the enemy is hit. Hitting an enemy in the head will do more damage.

It is impossible to get a boulder shot by a Decorated Cannon Beetle out of most lower water-filled areas. Furthermore, these rocks cannot be petrified, and will not hurt the leader if they lie down.

Trivia
*On the Piklopedia, this enemy cannot be destroyed with its own projectile. If pikpik carrots are thrown such that the Beetle's rock chases after them, curves, and hits its launcher, it will break without damaging the beast.
*In the end of day sequence at the Valley of Repose, a Decorated Cannon Beetle often appears. Sometimes it will shoot rocks (which occasionally strike and injure/kill other enemies), inhale, and walk much faster than normal.
*If the game is paused just as the creature makes its first dying sound, some strange noises will be heard, that get lower and lower, lasting for more than 10 seconds. This sound is the same death sound as the Ravenous Whiskerpillar's, but slowed down and normally cut off early. The same will happen with an Armored Cannon Beetle Larva.
*The Decorated Cannon Beetle's boulders act much like the red shells from the Mario Kart series, in that both home in on targets. In addition, both the creature and shells share the same red coloration. This same similarity applies to the Armored Cannon Beetle Larva and green shells.
*Despite its resemblance to the Armored Cannon Larva, it is classified as the Decorated Cannon Beetle, rather than larva.
