The '''Creeping Chrysanthemum''' ({{j|びっくり菊|Bikkuri Kiku|Surprising Chrysanthemum}}) is an [[enemy]] in {{p2}} and {{p4}}. When dormant, Creeping Chrysanthemums greatly resemble the large yellow flowers known as the [[Margaret]] used for level scenery. They can be told apart from the normal flowers, as they have one fewer flower, no leaves on their "stems", slightly visible patterns on their stem, and their large flowers have the Chrysanthemum's eyes visible.

When [[Pikmin family|Pikmin]] or the leaders get close, they will spring out of the ground, revealing their root-arms, their bulbous bodies, and their gigantic mouths that emerge from their tallest flowers. They move moderately slowly, and will return to their original spots if left alone for a while. They replant themselves by standing above the spot where they originally came and sucking themselves into the ground until only the "flowers" remain. These enemies cannot be [[ultra-bitter spray|petrified]] while they are in the ground.

The Chrysanthemums were heavily redesigned in ''Pikmin 4''. They now have white flowers, their mouths are at the top of their bodies instead of on stalks, they have large tongues which they launch to attack and their arms have been replaced with frog-like legs. When they launch their tongues and miss, they will take a while to retrieve them.

The Creeping Chrysanthemum is also a collectible trophy in ''[[Super Smash Bros. Brawl]]''.

Like Pikmin, the Creeping Chrysanthemum is a member of a group of creatures with ambulatory root structures.

This creature is known as a "mimic," but because it is actually a form of plant, this label is not entirely accurate. 
It uses its mimicry to lie in wait and ambush prey, unrecognized even by Pikmin despite being members of the same class of organisms.

It relies on preying upon other creatures to provide sustenance, so it has no need of leaves for photosynthesis.

Its large mouth will pick up the Pikmin to eat them, but if it fails to capture any, it will slam its head into its body and fall to the ground, struggling to get back up. This presents an opportunity for the player to attack the Chrysanthemum. Its weak point is its body, which can be hit at all times. It is generally weak against medium-sized groups of Pikmin. The best way to defeat it is to simply [[swarm]] it, being careful not to let it eat any Pikmin. Another way is to daze it with [[Purple Pikmin]] then swarm to kill it. Yet another way is to quickly dart forward and attack, and when it tries to eat Pikmin, retreat. It will hit itself, knocking itself down. Use Purple Pikmin to quickly kill it when it is struggling to regain balance. Another good method of defeating it is to have one leader dismissed without any Pikmin and the other leader close by with Pikmin. Then, have the leader without any Pikmin wake up the creature and switch leaders as soon as it wakes up and start [[swarm]]ing or [[throw]]ing Pikmin at the beast until it's dead.

After waking it, attack it until it does its recoil move, avoid it, then attack again. It's best to attack the Chrysanthemum from behind to minimize risk to the attacking leader. Alternatively, allowing the Chrysanthemum to bite and stun itself will allow for some extra [[punch]]ing time at the cost of increased risk to the [[leader]].

Following the redesign, the Chrysanthemum now has a frog-like tounge to eat Pikmin. It is recommended to ride [[Oatchi]] to prevent Pikmin loss. Circle around the Chrysanthemum and rush into it. Alternatively, you can have it eat a Bomb Rock.
