The Beady Long Legs (ダマグモ) is a boss in the first two Pikmin games. The only attack it has is stomping around, and its big feet crush any Pikmin they land on. Its weak spot is its orbicular torso; given its height, Yellow Pikmin are recommended. When defeated, it crumbles into dust and disintegrates after its belongings drop from its orbicular torso. The creature is in both the main game and Challenge Mode of both games it appears in.

Beady Long Legs is an enemy in both Pikmin games. The only attack it has is stomping around, which it does more quickly when damaged and its multiple feet crush any Pikmin they land on. To defeat it, one must throw Pikmin at its orb-like torso. Yellow Pikmin are recommended for this because the torso is high up. Swarming the feet will slow down the movement of the foot but is highly dangerous because the Pikmin may be crushed. When defeated, it crumbles into dust that disintegrates after its belongings explode from its torso. The creature is in both the main game and Challenge Mode of both games in the series. In the first Pikmin game it stomps faster than in Pikmin 2, and its feet stick into the ground. In Pikmin 2, it's slower and its feet don't stick into the ground.

In p2, the Beady Long Legs is colored with golds and browns, while in the first game it is primarily yellow and red and lacks the shiny, bumpy texture that it has in the second game. Its legs also appear more rectangular in Pikmin. Its appearances in the second game are slightly more common, with it having much less health, slower movements, a different shake, and makes different sounds. When at low health in either game, the Beady Long Legs will start smoking at its joints, and the creature's body will begin to flake away.
In Pikmin 2, the Beady Long Legs has a more brownish tone to its body, while in the first one it is just yellow. Appearances in the second game are more common, and have much less health, slower movements and different cries. It first appears as a miniboss in Pikmin, where it is found in The Forest Navel, protecting the Guard Satellite ship part, and again in The Final Trial in Challenge Mode. In Pikmin 2, one appears on the fifth sublevel of the Citadel of Spiders, where it drops a key which unlocks Challenge Mode, one on the fourteenth sublevel of the Hole of Heroes, one in the Twilight Garden in Challenge Mode, and one that can be found every palindrome day in front of the landing site in the Perplexing Pool after day 30. (False, as Beady Long Legs seems to be "found" every 3 days. Last fought on day 179 and then on day 183, but in another game only appears on Palindrome days.) If you walk on a small, white circle on the ground, it will fall out of the sky. Also, on the same day, dwarf bulbears and a bulbear come to the same area, so take care of the beady long legs quickly. Killing it here yields twenty small "1" pellets.

The Beady Long Legs does not appear in Pikmin 3, but there are two new Arachnorb bosses similar to it, the Shaggy Long Legs and Baldy Long Legs (the latter of which has an entry in the Piklopedia that mentions the species).

In Pikmin 1, you'd think you should take a large army of reds because reds are stronger than yellows or blues, but no! Such strategy will cause the giant spider to squish all of your pikmin while they try to reach its core.
|seeds1 = N/A    |seeds2 = N/A
Instead, take a small army of yellows, preferably 5-10, to fight Beady Long Legs. Start out with using just 5 and throwing them at the core while evading the legs, slowly but carefully adding 3-5 of more yellows as you progress and wear down its health. Eventually, the giant spider will die, leaving you with the prize, another one of Olimar's ship parts (you'll need 20-25 red pikmin to get the prize past the flaming geysers and back to the ship).

Behavior
The Beady Long Legs will remain out of sight until a captain or Pikmin enters its area. Once this happens, it will fall from the sky and land on the floor. When idle, it will stomp around, which can crush any Pikmin and damage captains. When it stops moving, it will lower its torso in an attempt to rest. If multiple Pikmin are thrown onto it during this stage, it will violently shake off any attached Pikmin. Once defeated, the Beady Long Legs will not leave a body and instead turn to dust, similar to other Arachnorbs.

Locations
In Pikmin
It appears only once in Pikmin's story mode, where it is found in The Forest Navel, holding the Guard Satellite. It is to the east of the map, in a sandy arena blocked off by a black reinforced wall. In the game's Challenge Mode, it appears in the The Final Trial where the Emperor Bulblax would be found in story mode.

In Pikmin 2
One can be found in front of the landing site in the Perplexing Pool after day 30; killing this one yields 20 small 1-pellets. It appears every day if it is not killed and always spawns on the first day of each 10 day period starting from day 31.

guide

Be careful when entering the boss's arena in Pikmin, since it can crush Pikmin when it falls down from the ceiling. This can catch unprepared players with large armies by surprise, but was changed for Pikmin 2: the Beady Long Legs will not be able to harm Pikmin until its introduction animation is over.

You should have no more than 30 Pikmin, as a large group can be hard to control and may cause a few deaths. Aim at its core and launch your Pikmin freely, being careful to neither miss nor let the grounded Pikmin get stomped on. Swarming will prove helpful here. When it shivers, it is about to shake Pikmin off. Call the Pikmin quickly, or else they might fall off for a few seconds and lose their bud or flower status. In Pikmin 2, all Pikmin will be shaken off, but in Pikmin, a few may still remain latched. Attacking one of its feet in Pikmin will not cause any damage, but the creature will have difficulties landing it, allowing Pikmin attacking the head more time before it attempts to shake them off.

If you have a viable amount of Yellow Pikmin, attack at will, but if not, bring twenty to thirty of some other types, preferably Red Pikmin, and wait until it has done eight stomps (two with each leg); it will lean down afterwards to rest. It will do this twice, so you should ignore it the first time, and then as soon as it begins to lean again, quickly throw Pikmin at its body. This will allow you to attack for a longer period of time.

Alternatively, a combination of Yellow Pikmin and Red Pikmin can be used. The Yellow Pikmin, when thrown at the creature's head, will weigh it down and lower it, allowing the Red Pikmin to be used without having to wait for the Arachnorb to rest. This detailed approach is only possible in Pikmin, as the enemy is not weighed down by Pikmin in Pikmin 2.
Pikmin 2
Beady Long Legs can now be beaten easily with any type of pikmin, because his legs are much farther apart. A squadron of 20 yellows is preferable, but in the Hole of Heroes, there's a level where you have to use Blue Pikmin. Regardless, using a large squadron is rather regrettable, though not as much as the previous game.

The Beady Long Legs can also be harmed by Pikmin attacking its feet; this is far more challenging and time-consuming, however. In Pikmin 2, only Purple Pikmin can damage the creature's feet with the stomp they cause, but in the Japanese version of the game, any Pikmin type can also attack its feet with regular attacks. As such, an easy way to defeat the Beady Long Legs in the Japanese version of Pikmin 2 is to place around 25 flowered Red Pikmin on the location where each foot is going to be, and when the creature lands from above, its health will be dropped so fast that it will not have time to stomp even once, ensuring a clean and quick victory. It may be difficult to determine exactly where the feet will end up at, though. This trick does not work in overseas versions of the game, nor the Wii releases, and it may only work with some of the Pikmin in the party.

In Pikmin, it is recommended to bring twenty Red Pikmin to the entrance of the arena, so they may bring the Guard Satellite through the fire geysers.

Leaders are completely incapable of hurting the Beady Long Legs.
Ship Log
"This creature is so large, it would tower over the Dolphin. All the Pikmin can do is cling to its feet and try to slow it down. Its large round torso is its sole weak point - since yellow Pikmin fly highest, they should be most effective against it."

Speedrunning
enemy
In Pikmin, the fastest way to defeat the creature is to have around 20 Red Pikmin and around 6 Yellow Pikmin with you. Before the boss lands, use to organize your party so that Red Pikmin are the closest to you. Walk into the arena, and begin throwing Red Pikmin so that they attach to the creature when it lands; when the Beady Long Legs falls down, its core reaches low enough for non-Yellow Pikmin to be thrown at it. Throw as many Pikmin as you can, using the swarm trick. When it shakes the Pikmin off, a few of them will remain attached. Carefully whistle the ones that got knocked down and throw them at the core again. The creature should be dead just as it's shaking the second time.emgi4V8zjM8

Glitch
Pikmin Nintendo Player's Guide
In Pikmin, there is a rare and dangerous glitch that causes Beady Long Legs to leave its arena. This glitch is most likely to happen when you leave the arena without killing it. Pikmin and/or Olimar have to be left at the gate to the small arena. The creature will then try to attack you, possibly leaving the arena. Once outside of the barriers, it will continue to pursue you. If you now run to the island where the Libra is, the enemy may fall into the abyss below, causing the game to crash (the game will also crash if you do not kill it after it leaves the arena after a certain amount of time).

Pikmin Nintendo Power Booklet description
If one wishes to attempt this glitch, the best place to do it without receiving any consequences is The Final Trial in challenge mode. Go to the arena in the back of the level and try this glitch on the Beady Long Legs in the arena.

Pikmin 2 Nintendo Player's Guide
In Pikmin 2, this is fixed. An enemy that has fallen into the abyss dies, and anything it might have been holding reappears above the ground near the place it fell.

Presumed glitch
At one point, a glitch about this boss was documented on Pikipedia. It was said to be a rare and dangerous glitch that would cause the Beady Long Legs in Pikmin to leave its arena. Once outside its boundaries, it would continue to pursue the player, and if coaxed into falling into the pit, the game would crash. It also claimed that the game could crash if left outside of its arena for too long, and that it could also happen with other bosses fought in arenas.

Despite the glitch's popularity, there was never any proof of it happening, though there were attempts. In fact, without editing the game's files to force the boss's territory radius to be larger than normal, there is no known way for the Beady Long Legs to walk far from its starting point, as it will attempt to return to the center of the arena if it exits a certain radius. In addition to the Beady Long Legs being unable to escape its arena in normal play, the crashing element is a hoax: should the player move the Beady Long Legs to the pits at the edge of The Forest Navel and coax it inside, its model distorts to try to "step" in the pit, before merely despawning.iXJFQKinoBM Since the editor that documented the glitch did so anonymously, and a bit haphazardly, it is impossible to figure out any details about the origin of the glitch. In light of the failed attempts to replicate it, the "glitch" may have been a hoax.
